My journey into the world of dyslexia and specialized tutoring didn't start with a professional goal. It began in my own home, as a mother watching her bright, high-achieving daughter struggle with reading and spelling.

I've always had a deep love for words and stories, and I shared that with my children from the start. But when my daughter started her literacy journey, I saw a struggle that her older brother never experienced. Through early elementary school, despite my concerns, her teachers assured me she would catch up. She worked hard and got A's. Unfortunately, her hard work masked her struggle with dyslexia.

The full picture only became clear in middle school, after the pandemic, when her grades began to slip and she hit a wall with math word problems. We sought out private testing which diagnosed her dyslexia. As I investigated dyslexia, I was shocked by how common of a disorder it is and by the great need for qualified tutors in Reno. Our own experience on a waiting list to get dyslexia tutoring was frustrating. Tutoring helped my daughter fill the gaps and I saw firsthand the transformation that proper, specialized support could bring.

This experience sparked a fire in me and gave me a new purpose. I realized that my own experience through working with children one-on-one in various settings, combined with my background in speech therapy, could help fill the tutoring gap in our community. I believe every child deserves a chance to reframe their relationship with reading. This isn't just about a subject; it's about providing the motivation to overcome past frustrations to unlock a child's full, vibrant potential and move Beyond Dyslexia.
